Hurricane Services
At ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital, our priority is always the safety of our staff, our patients, and our clients. This is why we have specific protocols in place for hurricanes, which are initiated when an official government announcement has been made for a ‘Hurricane Warning for Palm Beach County.’
These include three areas that most impact our clients:
Appointments
All appointments that occur during the warning/storm period will be cancelled. (Don’t worry our staff will contact you in advance to notify you and to schedule another date.)
Emergency Services
Unless advised otherwise by authorities (e.g.“Shelter in Place”), our Emergency Department will remain open 24×7 during hurricanes. However, as we do not encourage people to drive in dangerous conditions, we ask that pet owners first call us so that we can evaluate your pet’s condition (triage) and provide further instructions.
Hospitalized Patients
Hospitalized patients who are unable to be discharged will be cared for until such a time they are able to be discharged and/or it is safe to pick them up. (In the occurrence of a power loss, ACCESS has an onsite generator to maintain power for the hospital.)
Lastly, although we hope we never have to initiate our hurricane protocols, we highly recommend that all pet owners have a plan to keep their pets comfortable while riding out a storm, and to assist, below are two useful links that provide guidelines, resources and assistance.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
