Coming in November!
* In May 2022, the American College of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology (ACVNU) received provisional recognition from the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS) under the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), to establish the first dedicated specialty college focused solely on kidney and urinary tract diseases – areas previously managed within broader specialties such as internal medicine or surgery.
Seth Ghantous, DVM, DACVIM ACVNU Resident Nephrology and Urology*
Dr. Ghantous earned his veterinary degree from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, followed by a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery in 2001. He then continued his training with a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, going on to achieve his board certification in 2005.
For the next 15 years, he practiced internal medicine in Chicago and its surrounding area, where he not only played a key role in establishing the city’s first veterinary specialty center but also became certified in extracorporeal therapies – advanced treatments in which a patient’s blood is circulated outside the body through specialized machines to filter, clean, or modify it, such as dialysis or plasma exchange. During this time, he spent two years working alongside Jerry Thornhill, DVM, DACVIM, a leading veterinarian in nephrology and a pioneer in veterinary dialysis. Together, they expanded access to hemodialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange, significantly improving care for the regional veterinary community, and pet owners.
In 2019, Dr. Ghantous brought this expertise to South Florida, where he introduced these advanced therapies to local patients. In 2023, he was honored to join the inaugural class of nephrology and urology residents of the American College of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology, further deepening his specialization and advancing his ability to serve patients with complex kidney and blood-related conditions.
Today, Dr. Ghantous provides specialized internal medicine services at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital in Royal Palm Beach, where he is dedicated to expanding treatment options for pets while also supporting their families with compassion and clear communication. His approach blends advanced medical expertise with genuine care, ensuring each patient receives the best possible outcome.
Outside of work, Dr. Ghantous is a proud father of three (mostly grown) children, and he treasures every chance to spend time with them when they visit. In addition, he is a devoted pit bull enthusiast who always has a few by his side. And when he’s not caring for patients or enjoying time with his family, you’ll often find him diving as a certified Divemaster or out on the open road, indulging his love for motorcycles.
