Paul D’Ortona, DVM, MS (Surgery)

Dr. Paul D’Ortona is a small animal surgery resident with professional interests in surgical emergencies, orthopedic injuries, and wound management. Originally from New Jersey, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Business Administration from Rowan University and his Master of Science in Biology from Saint Joseph’s University, where his thesis research focused on guppy shoaling behavior. Dr. D’Ortona earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022.

Following veterinary school, Dr. D’Ortona completed a rotating internship at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, receiving advanced training in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, and surgery while contributing to the clinical education of veterinary students. He subsequently
completed two specialty internships in small animal surgery at CVETS in South Carolina and ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital – Palm Beach County. Throughout his training, he refined his surgical and perioperative skills and assisted with advanced procedures, including total hip replacements and mitral valve repairs. He also spent one year practicing as an emergency veterinarian, further developing his ability to manage critically ill and injured patients.

Dr. D’Ortona is excited to continue his advanced training as a small animal surgery resident at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital – Palm Beach County. He is RECOVER CPR certified in Basic and Advanced Life Support and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians.

Outside of work, Dr. D’Ortona maintains a strong interest in reptile and amphibian biology, enjoys staying active through strength training and outdoor activities, and appreciates the sunshine and vibrant lifestyle that Florida has to offer.
